Best of The Decade: Online, Hair and Albums (Part 1)

Tonight on Diff'rent Strokes, Jade and Dave reminisces on the decade that is the noughties...

HAIR:

When we look back on hairstyles of the 80s, we think big, greasy and tons of hair spray... now what will we say when we look back on the noughties? Dave takes us through this decade's most memorable dos, from the boy band frost tips to the Posh bob...

ONLINE:

If there's one message Jade got this decade - it's "geeks rule"! Hear our Diff'rent Strokes duo talk about when geek became chic and how inventions like the iPod revolutionised the way we consume music. Jade and Dave looks back on the decade that ushered in the digital music era and talk about the rise of citizen journalism.

MUSIC:

Tonight on part one of Diff'rent Strokes' Best of The Decade, Dave shares his Top 10 Albums of The Decade. Tune in to hear Dave wax lyrical about the albums that have been significant to him - even if some of them weren't exactly top of the pops. PS - he is threatening at least one solo Spice Girl album in the countdown! You've been warned.

Tune in next week to hear Jade's albums of the decade and our best TV of the decade segment with special guest, John Richards.

John Richards, Street Press & Vanessa Amorosi

Tonight on Diff'rent Strokes...

PODCAST:

We rope in John Richards of the Boxcutters (Triple R) and Outland Institute (JOY 94.9) fame to talk about his podcast programs. Our Diff'rent Strokes duo and John discuss the difference between preparing for a radio show and a podcast show, and how people consume the two media.

MAGAZINE:

Jade steers Dave away from glossy magazines to talk about street press. How have Beat and Inpress - two of Melbourne's biggest live music street presses - managed to co-exist in such close competition? And what will happen when more print titles migrate online? We come up with a solution for Dave's "magazine sniffing" addiction...

MUSIC:

Dave reviews the boisterous new Vanessa Amorosi album, Hazardous. Safe to say, our V Mama is an Aussie pop battler fighting against all odds in an Australian media culture ridden with tall poppy syndrome. Tune in to sample four tracks off the album, including her first Australian #1 single, 'This Is Who I Am'.

Best of 2009: TV, Online & Music!

It's that time of the year again and we're making our lists (and checking it twice)! Tonight Diff'rent Strokes presents their favourite TV shows, websites and music of the year...

TV:

Jade being the avid TV lover talks about her favourite new programs this year, and rediscovering classics. Every thing from Glee to Weeds - and longings to check out RuPaul's Drag Race. For Dave, it's been the year for TV on DVD and discovering series he missed on the tele. Plus, did Dave like the shows Jade recommended him this year? Hmm... 'urge to merge' much?

ONLINE:

Our Diff'rent Strokes pair nut out their websites of the year. Oh yes... it may have been the year of Twitter but what else have Jade and Dave been clicking through to? We'll also talk about the Top 20 most visited websites in the world. Can we say, "just Google it"?

MUSIC:

Hands down, the hardest list to do. Tonight Jade and Dave will reveal their albums and songs of the year (we'll be spinning some of them on air too, of course). In true Diff'rent Strokes schizophonic variety, you can expect everything from Utada to Tegan and Sara...

Sesame Street, Tumblr and Beyonce!

This week on Diff'rent Strokes...

TV:

"Can you tell me how to get... how to get to Sesame Street?" Tonight Dave reminisces on everybody's favourite children's program, Sesame Street. The show has been educating and entertaining kids for over 40 years - and despite the ratings dip and show format changes, it remains a cornerstone of childhood entertainment and pop culture. So question is... who was your favourite Sesame Street character?

ONLINE:

Today it's Twitter but could tomorrow be about Tumblr? Jade gives us a geek down of this somewhat obscure blogging/social networking site whose famous users include Katy Perry and John Legend. Just how many ways can we get connected these days?

MUSIC:

To complement the live music theme we're having on tonight's show, Dave will review Beyonce's brand new live CD/DVD pack: I Am... Yours. The Diff'rent Strokes duo will talk about acoustic and unplugged performances - and whether we can expect the same quality of intimate performance from pop superstars like Beyonce, who are more accustomed to delivering arena-sized spectacles.
