Dear Girls Above Me, Hellcats and Aussie Slangs

This week on Diff'rent Strokes...

ONLINE:

Imagine turning your biggest annoyance into something of comedic value that's shared by all on the internet. That's exactly what Dear Girls Above Me has done - a blog/Twitter profile dedicated to one man's frustration with the two loud girls that moved into the apartment above him. Check out his hilarious "letters" to them.

TV:

Cheerleaders are arguably not Jade's type but for what it's worth, she's checking out the new American dramedy Hellcats. The premise is about a pre-law student, Marti Perkins, who has no choice but to join a college cheer squad after she lost her scholarship. Cue character clashes, underhanded tactics and rivalry.

CULTURE:

We're celebrating Australia Day with our favourite Aussie slangs! Jade and Dave pull up a shortlist of Aussie slangs that they feel are still relevant in today and urges all Australians to keep a piece of our lexicon. You don't wanna miss this. It would be... un-Australian.

When Parents Text, Girl Talk and Housesitting

This week on Diff'rent Strokes...

ONLINE:

Dave and Jade joins the collective eye roll and LOLZ of When Parents Text - a blog dedicated to the unintentionally funny trials and errors of parental SMSes. This has to be one of our favourites - too funny to share on radio because, well, you need to see it to get it. Radio is a faceless medium. Sad panda.

MUSIC:

Jade checks out American mash up meister Girl Talk's latest offering All Day - a seamless 71-minute long album built on 373 overlapping layers of music samples. Yes, we know it's a few steps away from Jade's preferred strummy la la sonic persuasion but there's something incredibly danceable and clever about GT's mash up stylings that even our lady of indie rock can't help but be amazed.

Grab your free download of All Day here.

CULTURE:

Dave talks about housesitting culture. Why pay rent when you can get around as a housesitter? Our DS duo weighs up the pros and cons of being a sitter and having one's house sat. PS - see above. The only person Jade and Dave will trust their homes with.

UStream, Asian Envy Interview and Rat Tails

This week on Diff'rent Strokes...

ONLINE:

How about getting subpoenaed live in the middle of your online video broadcast? Jade talks about UStream, a video streaming website that allows you to broadcast to an unlimited audience on the interwebs - and how the girl in the center of the Dikileaks drama got served to appear in court when she was online.

Aside from that, our Diff'rent Strokes duo also discuss how UStream is quickly becoming a popular way for celebrities to connect with their fans and the value of "live candid interaction".

MUSIC:

Dave interviews Ross Larkin from an upcoming indie electro duo Asian Envy. There's a good ol' chat about the band's Asian persuasion, their first live show this Saturday and we even test how Asian Ross really is.

If you're a fan of technicolour electro pop with a dose of 80s influence then Asian Envy's Sweet & Vicious album is right up your street. Listen to their latest single:

CULTURE:

You like this and you know it. Rat tails. Mmph! Tonight Jade and Dave discuss the horrid hair trend and check out the many different varieties. This will inadvertently lead back to discussions of Jade's eternal boyband love - New Kids On The Block - so, you've been warned.

Future Me, Keri Hilson and Community

This week on Diff'rent Strokes... hold up. Happy new year for the first show of 2011!

ONLINE:

It's the crack of a new year, why not write a letter to yourself? Jade checks out Future Me - this really beta looking website that allows you to email letters to your future self at a particular date or post it publicly for all to see... anonymously. Got it?

See above: our prediction of what Future Dave will look like when he's tripping out something fabulous after reading his letter from the past.

MUSIC:

Dave reviews Keri Hilson's fierce sophomore album No Boys Allowed and explains why this singer/songwriter (most famous for her appearance on Timbaland's global smash 'The Way I Are') is a force to be reckoned with.

TV:

Jade checks out Community - an American comedy series about a bunch of students in community college and their nitwittery, often purveyed with a strong dose of pop culture references. The show is currently in its second season and Aussies are catching it now on cable network Go!.
