Favourite 90s Cartoons, Lykke Li and Dear Blank Please Blank

This week on Diff'rent Strokes...

ONLINE:

Dave checks out Dear Blank Please Blank - a website dedicated to anonymous "Dear... sincerely" submissions of any topic you wish to share. You can vote and categorise other people's Dear Blank submissions but really, you're there for the free LOLZ. Here's an example of a really witty Dear Blank post:

Dear Procrastinator,

Meet Dear Blank Please Blank. You're welcome.

Sincerely, Diff'rent Strokes.

MUSIC:

Jade reviews Lykke Li's forthcoming album Wounded Rhymes, which will be released in Australia this Friday. The Swedish indie singer first caught our attention when she dropped her debut album Youth Novels three years ago, and after all this time, we can finally take a listen to her new album in full now on Lykke Li's Soundcloud page here:
Wounded Rhymes is preceded by two singles - 'Get Some' and the latest, 'I Follow Rivers'.

TV:

Jade and Dave were inspired to revisit their favourite 90s cartoons after this post by long time listener That Boy James. Tonight we'll be rounding up our five favourites - Captain Planet and The Planeteers, Batman: The Animated Series, Daria, Stickin' Around etc. What's your favourite 90s cartoon? Let us know!

Emily Williams Interview, Chinese Stuff and Angry Birds App

This week on Diff'rent Strokes...

MUSIC:

The fabulous Emily Williams stops by and chats with us about her summer chic new single 'You're Mine', going solo and lessons learned from her Young Divas days. Download Emily's new single here on iTunes.

CULTURE:

Given that tomorrow is the 15th - and final - day of the Chinese New Year celebrations, Jade and Dave thought they'd check out several essentially Chinese stuff. Think: household items to staple foods, and the must-haves for the festive season.

ONLINE:

Jade checks out Angry Birds - a hugely popular and addictive gameplay app. The game has been downloaded over 50 million times across all platforms and have been described as "one of the great runaway hits of 2010". The best part of this Angry Birds movement is that it's crossing over to other media - think: TV appearances, YouTube parodies etc.

Kim Jong-Il Looking At Things, US Skins and Dawn Richard

This week on Diff'rent Strokes...

ONLINE:

We take a look at Kim Jong-Il Looking At Things - a blog dedicated to, well, the dear leader and his various seemingly blank inspections. Simple minds, simple pleasures. We don't get why this tickles us so but there's something very cute and odd about this collection of press photos showing the man doing nothing but observing things.

TV:

Jade checks out the American adaptation of Skins. Brace yourselves for a rant of grand Richter-scale proportions as our resident fan gives her first impressions of this controversial new series. The US-version premiered late last month - it'll be interesting to see how the show's controversial themes and language have been tailored for a largely conservative North American audience.

MUSIC:

Dave checks out former Danity Kane diva Dawn Richard's free mixtape - A Tell Tale Heart - and talks about her interest in indie/alternative music. Safe to say, we'll probably end up fantasising about a Diff'rent Strokes-style cross-genre experimentation and explore why it would or wouldn't work.

Bad Travellers, Adele and Smurfs' Village App

This week on Diff'rent Strokes...

CULTURE:

Jade returns from her American getaway to share with us her observations of bad travellers. Not to come down hard on folks who aren't accustomed to travelling or anything, it's more about etiquette and handy hints you should take while you're in a foreign land.

MUSIC:

Dave reviews Adele's defining new album: 21. The English soul siren's sophomore album debuted at #1 in the UK this week, and how's this for massive? After just three days on the shelves, the record had outsold the combined sales of all other albums in the Top 10. Bam!

ONLINE:

Jade finds a strange new obsession in the Smurfs' Village App. With the movie coming out this year - starring Katy Perry, who we all know Jade loves and adores* - it's safe to say that we're not alone in this resurgence of Smurfy interest.
*Sarcasm implied.
