Mythbusters, Sticker Collection and We Are Scientists

This week on Diff'rent Strokes...

TV:

Jade talks about one of her favourite nerdy indulgences: Mythbusters. This science entertainment program tests a bunch of myths and offers their verdict on whether the claim is - plausible, confirmed as true, or busted as a myth.

FLASHBACK:

Dave revisits his sticker collection and sticker albums tonight! Shut up. It was what all the cool kids were doing in the 90s. Well, at least all the cool girls were, anyway. Furries, glow-in-the-darks and even holographic ones - this kid had it all.

MUSIC:

Jade reviews We Are Scientists' new album Barbara. The is the band's fifth studio album and first with new drummer Andy Burrows (formerly of Razorlight), and it has only so far managed to chart at #46 in the UK.

Erika Heynatz Interview, Party Down and Nic Cage As Everyone

This week on Diff'rent Strokes...

MUSIC:

Dave catches up with model/TV presenter and pop singer Erika Heynatz to chat about her debut album Sweeter Side. Tune in to hear Erika open up about her transition into music, awkward songwriting sessions and overcoming self-doubt.

Hear the full interview on Sound Museum 3 August, 10pm on JOY 94.9

TV:

Jade gives her verdict on the short-lived American comedy series Party Down. The show starring Adam Scott, Jane Lynch and Megan Mullally was axed after its second season this year.

ONLINE:

Nic Cage As Everyone is a blog homage to one of the most unique and versatile actors of our time: Nicholas Cage. See the Hollywood star like you've never seen him before - as hundreds of different characters including Napoleon Dynamite, ET and Liza Minnelli.

Smash Hits, Hot In Cleveland and Words With Friends

This week on Diff'rent Strokes...

MAGAZINES:

There's a spot on our wall where Backstreet Boys posters used to live. Tonight we pay tribute to Smash Hits magazine and all the joy they brought us before kids learned to access the interwebs for their pop music fix.

TV:

Betty White is back on TV, kids! Hot In Cleveland has been tipped as the modern day Golden Girls - also starring Wendie Mallick (Just Shoot Me), Jane Leeves (Frasier) and Valerie Bertinelli (One Day At A Time). Dave is suitably impressed with season one so far, hear his thoughts tonight.

ONLINE:

Jade is obsessed with Words With Friends - the iPhone-based answer to Scrabble. Tonight we talk about this novel idea of getting together to play a board game without any physical human interaction.

Prepare for what one would expect to be a high-brow postmodern and philosophical discussion but will probably end up as one of zero value with Dave mainly talking over Jade as usual.

Scrunchies, The Drums and The Good Wife

This week on Diff'rent Strokes...

FLASHBACK:

Gurl, what's that you got holding your hair back? Oh scrunchies. Dave steps back in time this week to reminisce on the fabulous and ever so daggy 80s hair accessories. You'll never believe the run-in he's had with them.

MUSIC:

Jade checks out the brilliant indie pop debut by The Drums. Their self-titled debut charted as high at #16 in the UK and #52 in Australia. Perhaps a Diff'rent Strokes bump is on the way.

TV:

Dave gives Jade the low down on The Good Wife. This American legal dramedy stars Julianna Margulies - from the ER fame - as Alicia Florrick, the wife of a scandalised politician, and the challenges she face with juggling her work and private life.
