Geek Pride Day, Born This Way and 8tracks

This week on Diff'rent Strokes...

CULTURE:

Today is Geek Pride Day and all who need to know already knows. Jade and Dave ponders on this special day that started back in 2006 and was distinctly chosen to fall on 25 May (the day the first Star Wars movie premiered), and consider how the definition of geek has changed over the years. Is Geek Pride Day representative of all geeks in the community?

MUSIC:

Lady Gaga's Born This Way is without question one of the most intensely anticipated pop releases of 2011. The album was released globally this Monday after being shipped out early to music retailers in Australia last Friday. Hear Dave's thoughts on the record that everyone's talking about tonight. Gritty, camp and more experimental than ever before - Born This Way is the titan artistic statement Mother Monster has been dying to unveil.

ONLINE:

Jade and Dave have openly discussed their thoughts on making music playlists and "mixtapes" before but now is the time to share for real. Our DS duo checks out 8tracks - an internet radio site built on users creating and sharing short eight-track playlists.

Check out our special themed playlists:

Dave's Ice Queen mixtape of cyber-frosty electro pop tracks to soundtrack the winter drive, featuring Annie, Yoko Ono and Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

Jade's Melbourne Mix featuring her favourite home grown indie talents like Architecture in Helsinki, Art of Fighting and Children Collide.
