Shazam App, Feast of Fun and Washington

This week on Diff'rent Strokes...

ONLINE:

What's Jade supposed to do when she's out doing Domestic Goddess stuff like grocery shopping and Dave isn't around to tell her what song's playing in store? She gets out her Shazam - an app that takes a sample of whatever tune is playing around you and identifies the artist and song.

PODCAST:

Dave checks out the world's biggest GLBT-themed podcast: Feast of Fun. The fabulous duo of Fausto and Mark have been entertaining and enlightening gays all over the globe for close to five years now with their daily chats.

MUSIC:

Jade reviews Washington's wonderful debut LP: I Believe You Liar. Not to say we're tastemakers or anything, but we've been playing Washington on our show long before she broke out with this #2 charting album.

Begum Ali, Domestic Goddess Jade and "Three For Free" albums

This week on Diff'rent Strokes... we're having a big one.

TV:

Dave checks out Pakistan's answer to Dame Edna: talk show drag queen Begum Nawazish Ali and her top-rating talk show.

Against all odds and taboos surrounding cross-dressing and female empowerment, the Begum pushes the boundaries with humour and a sequined sari.

Watch a mini doco on Ali Saleem and his famous alter-ego Begum Nawazish Ali.

CULTURE:

Domestic Goddess Jade is back this week! Tonight Jade learns some interior decorating tips as only a modern day Martha Stewart can - through a design app and game.

Should we expect to see Jade around the haberdashery section more in the future?

MUSIC:

Dave is doing a "three for free" special tonight. Check out three up-and-coming pop artists who are giving their music away free:

Be voracious and download their awesome choons!

Rainbow Brite, Political Youths and Arcade Fire

This week on Diff'rent Strokes...

FLASHBACK:

Jade's hangs up her Domestic Goddess apron for the moment to reminisce on Rainbow Brite, the iconic (possibly embellishing now) 80s animated TV series. If this show was before your time, we've embedded the first episode to get you acquainted.

CULTURE:

Politics, youth and social media. Sounds like the makings of a politics essays but no, tonight Jade and Dave will discuss how young Australians are expressing and formulating their political opinions through social media like Twitter and blogs. Politicians' Twitter profiles (the real and the fakes), programs like the ABC's Q&A and their #qanda hash tag - consider social media and the youth are shaping politics today.

MUSIC:

Jade reviews Arcade Fire's new album The Suburbs tonight. The Canadian indie rockers saw their album debut at #1 on the UK and #6 on the Aussie charts this week. For those lamenting the death of CDs, the band has put out eight different covers for the physical album. Go collect 'em all.

Domestic Goddess Jade, Offspring and Kelis

This week on Diff'rent Strokes... we're unleashing a new mini-series.

CULTURE:

We are excited to present "Domestic Goddess Jade" - a weekly series following Jade's transformation into a modern day Martha Stewart.

Staying true to the media-savvy type that she is, Jade's education in cooking, homemaking and other domestic duties will be sourced from the interwebs - think: blogs, YouTube and apps.

Prepare for a one-of-a-kind cultural/media experiment!

#DomesticGoddessJade will kick off tonight with Jade learning to cook: Chicken Tetrazzini, Steak Romero and the infamous Rophy Does Pork Salad. Dave prepares to don his Masterchef cravat for a tasting tonight!

Check out a picture of Dave digging into the Pork Salad on air.

TV:

Dave looks up the new Aussie drama Offspring about a 30-something year old obstetrician Nina Proudman (played by Asher Keddie of Love My Way) and her balance of love, life and family. From the makers of The Secret Life of Us comes a heartwarming series starring Don Hany (drool!) and Deborah Mailman.

MUSIC:

Dave reviews Kelis' brilliant new album Flesh Tone and discusses why the 'Milkshake' mama's effective transition from generic R&B to strobelit electro-dance. Read Dave's album review on Feed Limmy.
